Jack LaLanne was a wonderful advertisement for a healthy diet – because he was 96 years old when he died.
Originally, he consumed sugar and all the other nasties with great gusto – until he discovered just what harm they were doing.
He was one of the pioneers of healthy eating, opening a health food store and health club as early as 1936.
He became a TV star in the 1950s teaching healthy diet and exercise – a career that continued into the 1970s.
And at aged 70 he towed 70 boats for a mile and a half around Long Beach, California.
His daughter, Yvonne LaLanne, aged 66, reports that he remained fit and active until just a few months ago.
Jack was a staunch advocate of eating a healthy diet, including plenty of raw vegetables and fruit and avoiding white sugar, white over-refined flour and all the other elements of the ‘junk food’ lifestyle.
